Shopska salad

Originally a Bulgarian salad that won the hearts of more than one cook. Try it too - easy and very tasty.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion
  • 50g / 1,7oz / 0,2 cup cooking oil
  • 300g / 10,5 oz / 2,2 cup tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 250g / 8,8oz / 1cup balkan cheese
  • 300g / 10,5oz / 2,2 cup bell pepper (various colours)
  • Salt and pepper

Recipe steps:

  1. Wash the cucumber and cut it into small pieces (anyone who needs can peel the skin).
  2. The tomatoes and peppers are also washed and sliced, the onions are diced, mixed with oil, salted and peppered.
  3. Cut the Balkan cheese or cheese of your choice (it can also be grated).
  4. Leave in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  5. Mix gently before serving and serve with homemade pastry.


Tip: 

We'll use the vegetables according to availability and what we like. For example, we can add radishes, or olives. For more flavors together with oil, we can also add a little lemon juice.
